Consultancy Opportunities, Art & Business Training

 
Founded in 2008, Uweza Foundation provides 300-400 Kenyan children and youth every year with unique opportunities to pursue a path to a better future through the discovery and development of their talents and abilities. Young people are exposed to education opportunities and ultimately earning incomes that utilize their own inherent strengths.

We are currently implementing a one-year project to improve market access for and amplify the voices of young artists living in Nairobi’s informal settlements. We week to provide a twelve-week training for 45 artists in the coming months. Read below to learn about consultancy opportunities for this project. 

Curriculum Developer

Uweza Foundation seeks the services of an individual consultant, group or company to develop a curriculum for a 12-week art, and marketing training. The training will be provided to up-and-coming artists from informal settlements across Nairobi and should include: art history and theory, art techniques, creativity and concept development, color theory and application, exhibition and gallery experience, art marketing and business skills, and other topics as advised.

Criteria:

1. Passion for Art and Education: An ardent love for art and a genuine commitment to advancing art education.

2. Educational Background: Degree in Education (Arts) or related field or previous experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or related educational fields.

3. Collaborative Skills: Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to work closely with Uweza team, trainers, and artists.

4. Experience with young artists: Previous experience working with young artists in Nairobi. 

5. Familiarity with Nairobi/Kenya art scene: Demonstrated experience with and understanding of the landscape and situation of up-and-coming artists in Nairobi. 

6. Availability to work on the project in February 2024 with some follow-up in March and April 2024.

Trainers

Uweza Foundation seeks the services of qualified trainers to deliver a 12-week art training. The training will be provided to up-and-coming artists from informal settlements across Nairobi and should include: art history and theory, art techniques, creativity and concept development, color theory and application, exhibition and gallery experience, art marketing and business skills, and other topics as advised.
 

Note: We will engage multiple trainers for this project and are looking for trainers who specialize in one or more of the above-mentioned topics. It is not required that applicants be experts in all of the topics. 

Criteria:

 1. Artistic Expertise: Strong portfolio of artwork in a variety of styles and media. Demonstrated proficiency in specific art forms or techniques.

2. Educational Background:  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field. Relevant teaching certifications or qualifications. Demonstrated previous experience leading training sessions for artists.

3. Experience with young artists: Previous experience working with young artists in Nairobi. 

4. Familiarity with Nairobi/Kenya art scene: Demonstrated experience with and understanding of the landscape and situation of up-and-coming artists in Nairobi. 

5. Availability to work on the project February – April 2024.
