Thanks to your support and to our friends at Project Kenya, we have been able to provide funding to Lookslike Avido, and together, we have created and distributed more than 5,000 masks for free to residents of Kibera and Nairobi. The masks are double-layered cotton with a pocket for a filter between.
Now, in light of new recommendations by the CDC and requirements by the Ministry of Health, we are ramping up production and have engaged our sewing course students and members of our Bright Futures program to continue making more masks to distribute to the most vulnerable members of the Kibera community who might not be able to access or afford them.
Here are some ways you can help:
1. Make a donation to help us buy more fabric either through our website (https://uwezakenya.org/covid-19-protecting-kibera-donate/) or our MPESA Paybill Business Number 247247 / Account Number 890840. $15 / 1,500 KSH can produce 10 masks.
2. Donate fabrics. If you have any spare fabric that can be used to make a mask (ideally cotton and elastics), let us know.
3. If you are working with an organization or initiative reaching the most vulnerable in Kibera, you can help us distribute masks. Fill out our request form and we will be in touch soon. https://uwezakenya.org/face-mask-request-form/
4. Spread the word! The more support we have, the more masks we will be able to make and distribute.
